If I did one or the other, I believe I was getting leaks, with my ISP DNS showing on leak tests. The TP-Link won't allow me to set the manual DNS setting to an IP on the same subnet as the gateway. But if I set the DHCP DNS to my Pi-hole, it appears to be functional. I just don't understand the difference. Thanks in advance.

Yep, running a 68 with Merlin. I use my PiHole for the primary DNS server and have the secondary blank. I also enable "Advertise router's IP in addition to user-specified DNS" (forwards to 8.8.8.8) to avoid outages if I break the Pi or run maintenance.
