They especially seem to excel at ganking, but are less common in 5v5's where roles become more specialized. The artifacts are fun weapons for ZVZ.

Spear is still very good for PVP but it's also a little bit harder to play then some of the other weapons. You also have to know when to use what kind of spear. Glaive is by far the most popular but it really is in the best for solo PVP as it's more for setting up attacks for your group.

Spears have lots of AoE. Their normal attack also slows, just like the bow. I haven't used em enough to know if the DPS is any good, though. Their buff is up to +105% normal attack damage, so I imagine you would have to focus on auto attacks to deal good damage (which isn't AoE). Harpoon (the expensive artifact spear) is the one with the pull.
