The only reason for you to be gathering higher-tier nodes is if you are collecting resources to craft your next-tier tool.

With a Pork Pie and no gathering yield % from other sources, you have a 15% for +1 ressouce and x2 fame. If you have over 100% you get +1 ressource and x2 fame everytime. You can even get +2 ressources and x3 fame now. For example a lvl 100 T8 Miner wearing gathering gear + Pork Pie in a level 8 zone has 155% gathering yield.
