Basically, having +100% gathering-yield throws off twice the resources and twice the fame, so overall +100% progression-speed. Therefore it can be simply used as a factor for progression. With a Pork Pie and no gathering yield % from other sources, you have a 15% for +1 ressouce and x2 fame. If you have over 100% you get +1 ressource and x2 fame everytime. You can even get +2 ressources and x3 fame now. For example a lvl 100 T8 Miner wearing gathering gear + Pork Pie in a level 8 zone has 155% gathering yield.
