Ansible can be used as a provisioned step in packer to configure the image. You can make several images, specialised to different roles and/or have a generic base image. Deploy images to bare metal using PXE or another method if no network for some reason. OpenStack has Ironic that can be used for PXE.

In a bare-metal deployment infrastructure, cross-domain resiliency is deployed using Ansible modules and playbooks. The KumoScale Software Ansible Module package provides the modules, example playbooks, variable file, and the host client for a KumoScale software implementation that can be easily integrated with data center DevOps procedures.
