However, when I use dhcpcd to set up my connection, I can't ping/connect to any sites or IP addresses besides internal ones as it just drops all the packets.

EDIT: Wierd, after plugging in a lan cable, while the usb drive was connected the usb drive is able to connect to the internet, even after the lan cable was unplugged.
