Nothing changed about the AUR recently. Using makepkg has always been the preferred, and only supported, way of building packages. If you skipped learning how the AUR actually works, that's on you.

I'm using TKG's linux54kernel and I installed exfat-utils-nofuse from the AUR.. So far, performance seems to be about on par with the FUSE driver, but the drives I'm testing the transfer speeds with are a platter ext4 drive and an SSHD exFAT drive, so it may be hardware limited.
