The Beilstein Institute for the Advancement of Chemical Sciences is a non-profit foundation located in Frankfurt am Main (German: Beilstein-Institut zur Förderung der Chemischen Wissenschaften). Founded in 1951 by the Max Planck Society, the institute is actively involved in maintaining the Beilstein database and the conversion of the contents of scientific libraries into electronic media.

The Beilstein-Institut runs two data standards projects, which are now widely accepted and acknowledged by the scientific community. The foundation finances all its activities itself with funds that are generated by its asset management. It receives no income from the state or third parties.

The Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry and the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology are peer-reviewed open access journals. There are no fees for authors. Abstract. The volatiles emitted by the ascomycetes Hypoxylon griseobrunneum and Hypoxylon macrocarpum (Hypoxylaceae, Xylariales) were collected by use of a closed-loop stripping apparatus (CLSA) and analysed by GC–MS. The main compound class of both species were polysubstituted benzene derivatives.
