The best program for me may not be the best program for you--start with what you need out of the program. Call, and attitudes towards call. This can be really variable--I went to one program where interns were doing 12 days on, 2 days off for their psych services, including holidays.

Psychiatry residents complain a lot. They have the time to do so. After residency. What is wrong about residency is that ultimately most psychiatrists work in clinics, not hospitals. Of those, many work in private practice (in large metro areas), some are health system-based (e.g., Kaiser, VA, county).

With the demand for psychiatrists, you will not have a problem getting a good job after residency, regardless of where you train. Residency programs are 85-90% the same due to ACGME requirements. Most prioritize location as their most important factor for choosing a residency.

Also Florida psych applicant. From what I know: UM is heavy workload. USF is VA heavy so you need to like that population but residents are pretty happy. Aventura is a newer HCA program and still establishing their outpatient and elective years. Psych fellowships have high unmatch rates so matching into child shouldn't be a problem.
