best distro with xfce? distro selection. Close. 4. Posted by 9 months ago. best distro with xfce? distro selection. so i've been recently playing with several distros and de's in virtual machine, and pretty much i liked xfce the most, lightweight and highly customisable.

Personally I find xubuntu to be the best, very good out of the box experience, and it addresses some shortcomings that vanilla XFCE has, like lack of proper pulseaudio integration (I *love* that xubuntu has a patched xfce4-volumed to work properly with pulseaudio, and uses the ubuntu sound indicator and pavucontrol instead of the extremely lacking xfce4-mixer)

What distro provides the best, most stable XFCE experience? Tried looking into this and the answers were mostly "any distro". I'm curious if there's a specific distro though that provides that most solid XFCE experience.

There are many XFCE distros! 2 excellent XFCE distros are Manjaro XFCE and MX-Linux (currently MX-17.1), Both are quite nice to look at, as well as being fast. They also don’t have the “bloat” of Ubuntu-based distros (Xubuntu, for example) so are good for older hardware. MX also has a 32-bit version, for really old hardware.

12.04.2013 · If you are new to linux I would recommend xubuntu or mint. Both of them are buit on top of ubuntu and are very good distros. The appearance configuration is quite different. Probably mint is more polished, but in the end is a matter of personal taste. Personally I run xfce on top of a minimal installation of ubuntu.
