BMC Medical Education is an open access journal publishing original peer-reviewed research articles in relation to the training of healthcare professionals, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education. The journal has a special focus on curriculum development, evaluations of performance, assessment of training needs and evidence-based medicine.

BMC Medical Education advises that study protocols are submitted well before recruitment completes. Authors will be asked to confirm the status of their study at submission. Study protocols for pilot or feasibility studies are not usually considered.

Criteria. Reviews are summaries of recent insights in specific research areas within the scope of BMC Medical Education. Key aims of Reviews are to provide systematic and substantial coverage of a research or clinical area of wide interest or to present a critical assessment of a specified area. A review must focus on recent research and on a topic that is timely and relevant to the field.

BMC Medical Education strongly encourages that all datasets on which the conclusions of the paper rely should be available to readers. We encourage authors to ensure that their datasets are either deposited in publicly available repositories (where available and appropriate) or presented in the main manuscript or additional supporting files whenever possible.
