Basically I get a "black" screen (with monitor backlight). I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Maybe I missed something with my Xorg installation? This is basically my install so far: Install Arch base OS on clean partition. pacman nvidia, nvidia utils. Install Xorg. install bspwm and sxhkd from github, followed the linked tutorial

You should write your sxhkdrc and put ‘sxhkd -c /path/to/sxhkdrc’ in .config/bspwm/bspwmrc. Don’t forget to make bspwmrc executable. Is it your first time with tiling window managers :D ? You could take a look at my GitHub repo for bspwm, sxhkd, kitty, polybar, dunst if you want to.

22.02.2015 · Bspwm blank screen at launch [solved] I just installed bspwm & sxhkd from the official repositories, and when I try to launch it, I get a blank screen. I can't get a terminal or any applications to come up. I followed the guide here for installation, except I installed from the official repos rather than using make.

On `startx` bspwm presents a black screen as expected, and sxhkd "works". By "works" I mean I can quit the xserver, but the shortcut to open urxvt does not appear open a terminal. However, after switching to tty2 and back, all previously opened terminals appear and work fine.

I reinstalled Ubuntu and now bspwm wont start porperly. I installed it from the package manager, but when I start it all I see is a black screen. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the config files. I used my own and also the default config files.

Is this your first time using bspwm? If so, a black screen is what you're supposed to get if you don't have anything configured. You'll need to set a wallpaper

Somewhere along the line, while I was copying the files into the appropriate .config folders, I accidentally created some extra directories. My sxhkdrc file was in a directory of the same name - ~/.config/sxhkd/sxhkdrc/ and same with my bspwmrc file.
