To calculate a standardized mean difference from the correlation coefficient r, the following equation from Friedman (1968, p.246) is used: The three indexes – Cohen's d, Glass's Δ and Hedges' g – convey information about the size of an effect in terms of standard deviation units.

The Cohen's d statistic is calculated by determining the difference between two mean values and dividing it by the population standard deviation, thus: Effect Size = (M 1 – M 2 ) / SD SD equals standard deviation. In situations in which there are similar variances, either group's standard deviation may be employed to calculate Cohen's d.

What is the relation between the effect size and correlation?
https://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/412590/what-is-the-relation...
10.06.2019 · You are right, Cohen's $d$and the correlation coefficient $r$are conceptually related, in at least two ways: Both are effect sizes, because both quantify the sizeof an effect(yes, it's that litteral!). Cohen's $d$quantifies the difference between the means of two populations, and $r$quantifies how robust is the relationship between two variables.

When studies report data as correlations, we usually use the correlation coefficient itself as the effect size. We transform the correlation using the Fisher’s z transformation and perform the analysis using this index. Then, we convert the summary values back to correlations for presentation.
