I can decently understand Ukrainian because I have had sufficient practice, but I used to understand almost nothing before. I can't speak Ukrainian, though. I can occasionally understand some words when I hear Polish or Czech, for example, but not enough to make sense out of the sentences. In general, my answer is no.
I guess Slovak is probably closest to Polish. Some of Slovak dialects are more like Polish and create a kind of bridge between those two languages. Poles, in general, understand Slovak more easily than Czech and Slovaks understand Polish better than Czech do.

20.07.2020 · Well, it depends on various factors. Slovakia separated from Czechoslovakia in 1993 - older people are therefore much more used for slovakia language. Younger generation may have troubles with some words, however no study or dictionary is needed for communication.
