With the help of the ~1800 check plugins and the ability to write your own checks you can monitor whatever you want. The amount of abilitys to do things like sending out notifications, configuration etc. are huge.

Check_MK is powerful but the UI is utter garbage. Use something else. I found netdata for monitoring quite nice. Its very easy to set up.
