If you see in the Event Viewer logs (Hyper-V-Worker -> Admin) event IDs 3280, and event ID 18012 (checkpoint creation error) in Hyper-V-VMMs->Admin, the issue has to do with a differencing file left behind from a previous backup. Look at the folder containing your VHDX file.
Is the Server VM a Domain Controller? If you run vssadmin list writers in the VM, what does it report for the NTDS VSS writer's 'State' and 'Last Error'?
Solution. By moving the VM to a different folder and deleting old folder and then moving back seems to reset the permission. To do this: Open Hyper-V Manager. Right click on the VM that has an issue and select Move option. Select the option accordingly: Type of move: Move the virtual machine's storage.
