10.02.2019 · Maxim asked me about including the VAAPI patch in Chromium back in November but I was still on the fence about it, for reasons similar to yours. However, with other distros adopting this feature and the fact that it's basically enabling code that's already used on Chrome OS, I believe it's worth to make an exception (as done for Widevine too).
