I would certainly agree with Matt Simmons that Windows Server DNS is unparalleled for usability from a GUI environment. However, in order to keep it updated with the latest security patches, the machine will need to have ~10 minutes downtime each month, and if you don't want to be touching your server as you mentioned, Windows is probably not the best way to go if you ask me.

You can setup bind9 dns with webmin as a front end. I don’t personally use this route so I can’t advise on difficulty of setting up but webmin is a decent web ui. If you have intentions on eventually having an ldap server then you can always use freeipa as ldap and dns.

I help run a student run datacenter at my college campus and I am in the process of setting up a DNS server. I'd like it to be web manageable. I do have Windows licenses, but I don't know if Windows Server has a WebUI. I am perfectly fine using Linux. Ideally it would be something like Glass for ISC DHCP. Thanks
