Good alternatives to Google/DuckDuckGo for research? I'm a university student and when writing papers I need to search things up. What I'm increasingly finding is that while DDG works as a general daily use engine, it sucks so much when trying to find academic resources on anything and I end up having to resort to Google which is not ideal.

YouTube lost money until Google purchased it and cross-financed the platform with money from their ad-business. Also new platforms don't have a huge advertiser network behind them. Other video services already tried and changed their business model after some time (f.e. Vimeo) 5. level 1.

DDG is privacy oriented service, or at least claims to be. By using it you show that there is a need for such a service, that there is a demand. You can use other alternatives such as qwant, searx, startpage. DDG is not miracle solution to your online privacy DDG is just one service.

I know I'm biased on this one, but if you want to search in private - then give our independent Open Source Search Engine, hosted in Europe a spin - we are still early and has focused on Danish results for a while, so not all results are equally relevant.
