Size your shards. To protect against hardware failure and increase capacity, Elasticsearch stores copies of an index’s data across multiple shards on multiple nodes. The number and size of these shards can have a significant impact on your cluster’s health. One common problem is oversharding, a situation in which a cluster with a large ...
Byte size unitsedit. Whenever the byte size of data needs to be specified, e.g. when setting a buffer size parameter, the value must specify the unit, like 10kb for 10 kilobytes. Note that these units use powers of 1024, so 1kb means 1024 bytes. The supported units are:

Dec 24, 2018 · There's no way to get elasticsearch docs size by API. The reason is that the doc indexed to Elasticsearch takes different size in the index, depending on whether you store _all, which fields are indexed, and the mapping type of those fields, doc_value and more. also elasticsearch uses deduplication and other methods of compaction, so the index size has no linear correlation with the original ...
In ElasticSearch: There is a max http request size in the ES GitHub code, and it is set against Integer.MAX_VALUE or 2^31-1. So, basically, 2GB is the maximum document size for bulk indexing over HTTP. And also to add to it, ES does not process an HTTP request until it completes.
The value of the _size field is accessible in queries, aggregations, scripts, and when sorting. It can be retrieved using the fields parameter: Use the fields parameter to return the _size in the search response. Uses a script field to return the _size field in the search response.
Elasticsearch documents are described as schema-less because Elasticsearch does not require us to pre-define the index field structure, nor does it require all documents in an index to have the same structure. However, once a field is mapped to a given data type, then all documents in the index must maintain that same mapping type.
The from parameter defines the offset from the first result you want to fetch. The size parameter allows you to configure the maximum amount of hits to be returned. Though from and size can be set as request parameters, they can also be set within the search body. from defaults to 0, and size defaults to 10.
Lucene uses a byte buffer internally that uses 32bit integers for addressing. By definition this limits the size of the documents. So 2GB is max in theory.
But if my query has the size of 650,000 Documents for example or even more, how can I retrieve all of the results in one GET? I have been reading about the SCROLL, FROM-TO, and the PAGINATION API, but all of them never deliver more than 10K.

Max file size checkedit The segment files that are the components of individual shards and the translog generations that are components of the translog can get large (exceeding multiple gigabytes). On systems where the max size of files that can be created by the Elasticsearch process is limited, this can lead to failed writes.
