Or why neither of those environments seem to be actually needed when sourcing esp-idf/export.sh in practice.

Python 3 support is new, please report any problems you encounter. Search for 'Setting the Python Interpreter' in the ESP-IDF docs if you want to use Python 2.7."

I used the offline installer. While installing there was no error. C:\Users\stefan.erni\Desktop\esp-idf>python --version. Python 3.8.7
