They’ve been around for long enough to establish themselves, and they support more routers than anyone else, including lower-priced routers. There are even people selling routers with DD-WRT already flashed on them.

There are special instructions for this router on the gargoyle website. It looks pretty important that they are followed. The CFE has already been flashed over due to it coming preinstalled with dd-wrt.. so it is effectively a WRT54GS. Note the special instructions are the same as for dd-wrt.. and only when flashing from linksys firmware.

I don't care for DDWRT, but I would get into that. ... but also more confusing compared to gargoyle or dd-wrt, because there are scary acronyms everywhere.
