I'm better at that than memorization, so I found genetics to be a lot easier than biochem (also why I thought pchem was easier than biochem).

As someone already said, these fields are close but, biochemistry focuses more on the chemical interactions within the cell. Also it depends what kind of genetic engineering you want to do. If you just hope to use CRISPR/Cas9 some day, then you can major in just about anything. I'd suggest biochemistry with a focus in advanced genetics electives.
