I set my mate up with an OpenWRT unit which does the same. It's fairly straightforward and requires no maintenance really. Namely he runs OpenWRT with the DNS servers simply set to those of Getflix (got a lifetime sub for 50 bucks on StackSocial a while back) and a DNS redirection rule in place to catch DNS requests that try to bypass it.
