If you want to know Alaska’s night forecast from midnight to sunrise, when the aurora is often more active, you should look at the next day’s forecast.

It also suffers from the UTC to Alaska time zone problem, making it extremely inaccurate. Making matters worse, it is the first page that comes up if you google "aurora forecast," causing a great disservice to many local would be aurora viewers. 15.02.2019 · Hello, we are in town for 6 nights to see the Aurora and although the Aurora forecast on the Explore Fairbanks website said that our chances of viewing the Aurora would be excellent yesterday, we didn’t see a peep. Kept vigil from 9 pm to 4 am at Chena Lake and then drove Cleary Summit but we’re sorely disappointed.

For Alaska, this means the aurora is expected to be active and visible overhead from Utqiagvik as far south as King Salmon and low on the horizon for much of the Aleutian Islands.
