Aug 17, 2020 · Tried to allocate 1.17 GiB (GPU 0; 24.00 GiB total capacity; 21.59 GiB already allocated; 372.94 MiB free; 21.69 GiB reserved in total by PyTorch) Why does PyTorch allocate almost all available memory? However, when I use train-set of 6 images and dev-set of 3 images (test-set of 1 image), training with cuda-devices works fine.

Feb 18, 2020 · I got RuntimeError: CUDA out of memory. Tried to allocate 20.00 MiB (GPU 0; 10.76 GiB total capacity; 9.76 GiB already allocated; 21.12 MiB free; 9.88 GiB reserved in total by PyTorch) I know that my GPU has a total memory of at least 10.76 GB, yet PyTorch is only reserving 9.88 GB.

18.02.2020 · It seems that “reserved in total” is memory “already allocated” to tensors + memory cached by PyTorch. When a new block of memory is requested by PyTorch, it will check if there is sufficient memory left in the pool of memory which is not currently utilized by PyTorch (i.e. total gpu memory - “reserved in total”).
