Nov 14, 2010 · Apparently my WLAN interface gets hard blocked now when I connect by wire. This is a new "feature", though I've no idea where it came from. Apparently one or more of my attempts to fix my WLAN after it broke have worked, but as I was connected by wire, my WLAN was hard blocked.

First go into BIOS and reset it to defaults. If that does not help, then run in terminal sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-hp.conf ...

Oct 24, 2016 · It was sent for servicing a few days ago, now the wifi doesnt work. # rfkill list. 0: phy0: Wireless LAN. Soft Blocked: no. Hard Blocked: yes. The driver apparently works : # lshw -C network. gives *-network DISABLED. so its not a driver problem.

The issue of HP wireless being inoperable because of a hard block and therefore the usual wireless key not toggling wireless on and off is long-standing. There are only a few things you can try. First, try removing the helper module hp_wmi and then try to switch the wireless on with the key combination.

23.10.2011 · I've got an HP Elitebook 8530w, with an Intel wifilink 5300 agn. It's dual booted with Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 Recently my windows fried, as it does ever so often. I reinstalled it and started to curse it for erasing my bootloader. Reinstalling GRUB from a live boot didn't work, so I reinstalled ubuntu 10.04 without formatting / to keep my data.
