Angel Fire is probably the second best ski resort in New Mexico after Taos. They have a very wide variety of terrain, long runs, some challenging terrain, pleasant staff, decent views and great snow. Mid-week skiing is amazing. The biggest con is that nearly every skier is from Texas, Oklahoma (aka Texas Part II), or Louisiana.

The title of your review is misleading and does not accurately describe us at all. We can be quite busy and are sometime crowded in the beginner area, that is true.

Mar 15, 2012 · Angel Fire has a number of wide trails, which for anyone learning to ski, is essential to enjoying skiing. There is nothing worse for a beginner skier than narrow, crowded trails. Beginner skiers in this situation fear getting hit by skiers, falling into the mountain and getting hit, or skiing off the trail.

We close the mountain briefly from approximately 4 – 5 PM to allow time for our mountain crew to do a Ski Patrol sweep and a courtesy groom.

Rated at 21% beginner, 56% intermediate and 23% advanced terrain, Angel Fire Resort features 80 plus trails, 3 terrain parks, including a boarder cross/ski cross course, and 30 acres of tree skiing. The area receives 210 inches of snow per year, and snowmaking happens on 52% of the mountain (85% of the beginner terrain).
Don't get me wrong, Taos is fun skiing for those who know what they are doing but Angel Fire is best for those who have never skied at all. Red River is alright for beginners but does not have as many or as long or as wide runs for beginners. Angel Fire also has snow boarding and tubing if your teens are interested.
Why it’s awesome for beginners: With its ski school for beginners and three levels of all-in-one beginner packages, Angel Fire is a great beginner-friendly ski resort that’s a great alternative to the more intimidating Taos. 21% of the 81 trails are considered beginner runs, which means you’ll have a lot of opportunities to practice your new skills!
