The major is quite similar to biochemistry, although more theoretical calculations and concepts will be involved…and, at Johns Hopkins at least, the major is most like an extention of what is learned in biology.

The Hopkins major in biophysics has always been a rigorous and challenging major that attracts students interested in biology as well as mathematics, physics, and computation.

Generally, have in mind that Biophysics is essentially applied mathematics, that is, it is more mathematics and physics than biology! (At least, in my point of view). My recommendation would be to major in bio and minor in physics. So, yes, biophysics would be a great, unique way to approach premed. However, biophysics is a large field that is not exclusively medicine related. Biomaterials and biomechanics all require understanding of biophysics. So in short, you can use biophysics as a launching point for a career in medicine, pharmaceuticals, or engineering.
