On January 14, the resignation of the editorial board of Journal of Informetrics (JOI) was announced.There were fundamental disagreements between the editorial board and Elsevier, the publisher of JOI, about ownership, open access, and open citations.As a result of this, the editorial board decided to resign and to launch a new journal, Quantitative Science Studies (QSS).

After several months of earnest attempts on our part, Elsevier was told on January 10 that the Editorial Board of our Journal of Informetrics (JOI) had decided to resign. Subsequently the board announced they will start a new journal: Quantitative Science Studies (QSS).

JOI is representative for the field of informetrics: more than 50% of the published papers deal with citation analysis and/or h-type indices. The future of JOI looks bright: before the year 2011 is finished we have more submitted papers than in any year before. As editor-in-chief, I am very pleased with the quality of the refereeing work.

A recommended science mapping workflow is described through five stages. The open-source bibliometrix R-package is proposed for performing comprehensive science mapping analyses. The main bibliometrix functions are illustrated in the recommended workflow. Clarivate Analytics WoS data are used to show the bibliometrix main features.
