I definitely agree with this.Mac fonts look blurry and smudged to me.While Linux fonts are beautifully clear once you turn on hinting.I think it's just what people are used to,when I switched from Windows the then default Ubuntu fonts were really jarring.I think fonts are the only thing Ubuntu have really improved for Linux in the last few years

Fonts on linux have long been an issue due to various reasons like the BCI patent by Apple, lack of free quality fonts etc. However over time things have changed and now its possible to get your linux system fonts look as good as, or even better than a mac or windows 8 as far as fonts are concerned.

UPDATE: 30 comments later, I love the 100% agreement that there are no issues with ones personal font preference on Linux. This is exactly what my point was. It renders just fine and there's no reason to curse every time comparing it to windows.
