This week I am building a Gentoo install on one of my laptops and the thought crossed my mind that it would be pretty cool to be able to have a minimal Mint install that only had the software that I actually use.

I got interest in Linux this year after getting SICK & TIRED of windows 10. So I bought a laptop to dive into the Linux world. I started with Ubuntu (cuz everyone suggests its a noob friendly OS) > Debian > Fedora > PopOS > Linux Mint. Then used Linux Mint XFCE for 6 months, I got really used to it and it's been great.

The installation is extremely minimal, it just comes with a simple text mode linux with almost no software exept it's package manager. Then you can install whathever you need from there.

May 04, 2018 · I like the solution Ubuntu has provided in 10.04 of having a "minimal" install. I would like to do this on one of my systems, but with Mate rather than Gnome. I've experimented by installing an UbuntuServer base install and then bringing in the Mint repo and installing the Mate-Desktop-Core.
