The issue is that when installing the OS, Manjaro also default installs the network-broadcom-wl drivers. With that there's now a driver conflict between the installed one and the kernel driver. I have followed the second part of the guide by tbg in the Manjaro forums as my wifi device info showed "Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge".
