Neither changing the resolution manually nor using the “Fit Guest Now” option is working correctly. Since the screen resolution is pinned to 800×600 pixels, it’s almost impossible to properly use the VM.

I’m running Manjaro (KDE) in VMware. Open VM Tools seems to be working properly and everything else is running great. When I set the resolution, it changes for about half a second and then snaps back to 1360×768.

Whether this resolution is stretched or not will most likely be configurable in your Monitor’s OSD/Settings, the Operating System has very little influence on stretiching as far as I’m concerned. As you see now we can have a lower DPI resolution at higher native LCD resolution that is integer scaled by 2. This give you best of both worlds.
