The default mod key is set to super which I’m assuming is the windows key but it doesn’t work. I’ve also tried alt and control too but no response at all. I can’t open the terminal so I can’t open any programs from there either.

Put these together (i3 + Manjaro) and you get Manjaro i3 (Community Edition): a very nice distro with a well implemented i3wm environment (by default).

It follows the UNIX philosophy of "Make each program do one thing well". While i3 manages your windows well, i3bar is good at displaying a bar on each monitor (unless you configure it otherwise). It leads to two separate, clean codebases. If you want to understand i3, you don’t need to bother with the details of i3bar and vice versa.
