It's far more feature-full than XFCE, and has better theme options thanks to GTK3. It's also significantly heavier (thanks to GTK3). XFCE is significantly lighter, but still tied to GTK2.

GNOME 3 is the heaviest, slowest desktop environment in the Linux ecosystem right now. It lacks many useful features and is a pain to customize.
