The vessel's initial name (Midnatsol) means "Midnight Sun". Accordingly, its interior design was celestial-themed, colourful and with numerous modern Norwegian artworks on display through the vessel. Together with MS Trollfjord (sistership) Midnatsol (now Maud) is one of the newest in the Hurtigruten fleet.
