Hey guys, I'm absolutely stumped, and if anyone can help that'd be awesome! Current setup: Docker. Pihole (MacVLAN on IP 192.168.0.2 on MacVLAN A). Nginx Proxy Manager (MacVLAN on IP 192.168.0.4 on MacVLAN A). Trying to setup Pihole on NPM, but I'm getting the following:

On nginx proxy manager i've associated every CNAME record created on pihole to the LAN ip of the containers. Theoretically if i go to gitlab.domain.com it should make pihole resolve to the local ip of the nginx proxy manager and then the proxy should resolve to the local ip of the container. That doesn't happen unfortunately.

Overview

I've successfully setup PiHole DNS behind a reverse proxy by way of NGINX. I am using Heimdall as an interface for NGINX, pointing to all the various applications on my local LAN of which PiHole is one. It works as far as logging in and navigating through the PiHole interface.

Pi-hole provides my dns in house so all my services have there own dns addresses and Nginx proxy manager points those urls to the correct ports.

I'm trying to add Nginx Proxy Manager into my homelab network setup now that I have a few years of running Pi-hole network wide and a Reverse Proxy on my NAS. I still have so much to learn. What I'm trying to do is stop using the NAS as a Reverse Proxy and tighten up my network and firewall rules and I get to learn more about NGinx.

Make sure to use your hostname instead of _ in server_name _; line above.

If you want to take this even further, you can also use NGINX Proxy Manager to reverse proxy your custom domain to services that uses ports.

Have your router point 80 and 443 to NPM, then have NPM reverse proxy to all other sites, including PiHole web interface, internally. I've had zero issues with this, and I run 80 sites exposed through NPM.
