20.05.2020 · Pihole is a network wide ad blocker. Using DHCP we can tell every device on your network to automatically and transparently use Pihole for DNS. But what if you have custom DNS entries in your firewall? I use OPNsense but this process largely transposes to …
pfSense releases have been lagging a lot in the last few years, with a very long delay for 2.5, and it was buggy on release, combined with the Wireguard fiasco and closing of the source. OPNsense has a lot more functionality in packages instead of 'core' OS, which seems to make sense to me.
"The most valuable features in OPNsense are reporting and visibility." "I have found the solution has some great features overall, such as guest access ...
OPNsense started as a fork of pfSense® and m0n0wall in 2014, with its first official release in January 2015. The project has evolved very quickly while still ...
pfSense has been around for longer, so the community is bigger, and there's more documentation online. IPFire has a less mature user interface, so we don't recommend it unless you already know it. OpenWRT is excellent, but not as user friendly as OPNSense and pfSense. I want to have wireless in my router. That's easy! You should use OpenWRT.

The stated reasons which led to the fork are mainly technical, but also due to security and code quality. In Last (but not least), the fork was …
I've been in the pfSense game for about 8 years now, and now I've recently begun to give OPNsense some serious thought with the rise of pfSense Plus and the rocky release of pfSense 2.5.0. I have a hard requirement that my VM-based firewalls be open source, and I'm concerned that pfSense CE will become a second class citizen, so for those I will likely switch to …
20.10.2021 · I am not sticking up for Opensense as I have never run it. I ran pfsense a few years ago and it did not play well with others. I always run a Cisco L3 switch and it did work with pfsense. I think pfsense is designed to really be the only L3 device in the network. And it is better than any consumer router you can buy.
