It seems to work, you see only one wireless net, but when you connect it seems that the device uses both frequencies. But in my informal tests, it seems that speed suffers a bit. When mobile devices / laptops move around the house, everything behaves as one single big wifi network with good signal everywhere.

I have two routers, both running OpenWRT 10.04. The first is a WRT160NL router connected to my ISP. I am using it as an access point with the ESSID of "160AP". It's WEP password is "AAAAA" and it's broadcasting on on channel 5. My purpose: extend the range of this first router with another router. My other router is an Asus WL500GPv2.
Setting up APs to the same SSID/password (and, important thing, same type of encryption! You can't use e.g. WEP on one, and WPA2 on the other, or even mix WPA2 and WPA3, unless you use WPA2 on one, and WPA2/WPA3 on the other) will allow you to roam to an extent, but switching won't be optimised, and you might end up with devices not roaming properly.
May 24, 2019 · just having the two bands on same ssid/pw without any special sauce is the best option imo. create a bridge over the wifi-interfaces and you got seamless roaming. Once I have got a decent connection, I will configured the nets as you, @danghuy1994 and @Hegabo recommend, both under the same SSID and with the same MMID.

So I am trying to extend it so that my whole house has the same SSID, but 2 or 3 access points in it.
