Many targets are running 5.10 with very few issues if any, but I haven't heard any specific advantages. I've been running 21.02 snapshots on my WRT32X which has kernel 5.4, it's be rock solid. x86 is obviously different but you shouldn't have issues.

It seems that patches submitted to the ML of the Linux Kernel and not yet merged are being actively tested in the repository of OpenWrt. anomeome November 16, 2020, 9:44am #5. Preliminary 5.9 support in nbd staging, but I think the target version will be 5.10 when push comes to shove; check ML.

26.10.2021 · Version: OpenWrt SNAPSHOT, r17818 When trying to use a Vlan configuration with Kernel 5.10.xxx, I cannot use the tagged guest Vlan. Neither a connection nor a ping to the gateway of the guest network is possible. The same configuration under OpenWrt 21.02.0, r16279 (Kernel 5.4.143), the configuration works as expected.
