I have the PFSense appliance (hardware) in the external DNS space, and that all works fine, except I cannot get it to resolve host name only for clients in the internal domains. Typically on a Linux system I would just add the search line into /etc/resolv.conf and call it a day, but with this being FreeBSD I am not sure on the method of doing this, or if it's something that can be done …

05.07.2019 · Anyway, I had whatever.local as the DNS suffix in pfSense, so all the servers I have built that were hanging off LAN0 initially requested DHCP off the running service, and therefore picked up whatever.local as the connection specific DNS suffix on their NICs. Pfsense adding local domain to all DNS requests. I've found an intermittent problem that I cannot figure out what the source issue is. I have DNS resolver off, forwarder on, pointed at a pihole on the network.
