One server should be allowed to fail, so I limit the memory usage to 26GB per server. If I need more, I can put 64GB more RAM in the new servers, so I can use 69GB of RAM per server. I know it isn't recommended to put both Ceph and Proxmox on the same hardware, but looking at my budget, this would be the best option for me.

UPDATE: I did small test: standard proxmox backup took ~4 minutes. using rbd export and lzop was around ~1 min. However, I am not sure if these equals also I do not know if export is correct way to do live backup.

Myself i would use a 10g switch, divided into two separate networks/vlans, one for ceph, one for backups and inter server traffic. And use the two 1g lag to switch for vm's internet traffic. Can also use the backup/interserver network for proxmox interface. As a good practice have the 10g networks behind there own router/firewall.

Edit: I'd prefer not to do the poor-man's sync (ZFS/Proxmox scheduled backups of a VM to another host). But, that is an option if it comes down to it.
