I had issues with my ZFS pool and thought it was due to the PCIe pass through and wiped out Proxmox in order to diagnose the issue (it was actually a bad DIMM). I'm now currently redoing my server and am planning on having the ZFS pool mounted directly under Proxmox itself.

Aug 06, 2021 · Main reason I switched from FreeNAS to Proxmox was to get rid of jails and bhyve VMs because TrueNAS is a very bad hypervisor. And for the shared storage... ZFS can't be shared between hosts. For something like that CEPH is a better storage choice. If you want share data stored on a ZFS pool you can only use NFS/SMB/iSCSI for that.

Inside the VM a script is running as root saving a backup on this nfs share. If I create a file locally (Test1) on PVE1, the owner is of course root.

I am trying to share some ZFS datasets with samba but I am unable to connect to them from Linux or Windows. On proxmox I ran zfs sharesmb=on zfsraid/share and the workgroup is set correctly in the samba config file. I have a ZFS zpool that is mounted on the Proxmox host, and I want to share certain datasets and other specific directories to my VMs. I've read that this is usually done with network file shares, and started setting up a Samba server - I'm mostly familiar with it in a single server setup - but quickly noticed that the server processes are running as root.
