A LightningModule organizes your PyTorch code into 5 sections Computations (init). Train loop (training_step) Validation loop (validation_step) Test loop (test_step) Optimizers (configure_optimizers) Notice a few things. It’s the SAME code. The PyTorch code IS NOT abstracted - just organized.

Lightning calls .backward() and .step() on each optimizer and learning rate scheduler as needed. If you use 16-bit precision (precision=16), Lightning will automatically handle the optimizers. If you use multiple optimizers, training_step() will have an additional optimizer_idx parameter.

It turns out that by default PyTorch Lightning plots all metrics against the number of batches. Although it captures the trends, it would be more helpful if we could log metrics such as accuracy with respective epochs. One thing we can do is plot the data after every N batches.
