29.12.2009 · I am using Backup Exec 12 and have setup a Backup-to-Disk folder that points to a share on the NAS. Any jobs that are run against the NAS device end up failing a few hours in. It turns out that Backup Exec needs the stripe size of the RAID array to be 64K. Is there any way to manually set the stripe size of a QNAP NAS?

We are using a 24bay TS-2483XU-RP-E2136-16G with 24x12 TB WD Enterprise Sata drives in Raid6 + Hotspare as a veeam backup repository. I created a block based lun but my only options are 512b or 4k for block size.. for a veeam repo there is often a 128/256k block size recommended.

Apr 11, 2017 · I ended up rebuilding that QNAP with RAID0 and 64K 'inode' size. Can't say it helped too much. Backup crashed down to 5MB/s after five days, 72% through. I killed it. Rebuilding that file repository onto smaller vdisks now.

31.12.2017 · An array "stripe" is very much like a file system cluster, in that it can only hold a single file, or portion of a single file. If it is strip size that the controller uses, in your case (120KB - 330KB average file size) I would go with 64K which will give you a 128K stripe size.

Dec 29, 2017 · There is the "stripe element" size (often referred to as "strip" size) which is the per drive size. Then there is the "stripe" size which is equal to the strip size x the number of drives in the stripe. In your case, a 4 disk RAID 10, it would be strip size x 2 because of the mirroring.
