31.03.2018 · I have the same problem (blank screen) so I tried a clean install using 2018-04-18 version of raspbian and if I leave the user name and password pi / raspberry then it works (I have some trouble with a couple "root" permission apps but that's a different issue). If I change the password then I can't log in via xrdp anymore.

SSH works fine, but a bit difficult. tvservice -s gives: [E] Failed to initialize VCHI (ret=-1) further, when I use VNC or RDP, I get a blank screen, on which I can right-click. this gives a menu from OpenBox. when I use VNC, I do get a Terminal window, in spite of the setting in raspi-config.

As CoderMike says, sudo raspi-config. then services I think it is. Enable VNC. Use the RealVNC application or mobile app to connect.

It's my third day with my Raspberry Pi. I do know Linux. I am all good with using SSH with my Raspberry Pi but I do need a GUI sometimes. I tried installing vncserver, tightvncserver and now xrdp but nothing turned out to be right. I am even connected using my window's remote desktop connection but I see nothing on the screen of my Raspberry Pi.

sudo dpkg -i teamviewer_13.2.13582_amd64.deb. Start the app via the Start menu or by typing “TeamViewer” in a terminal. Log in if you have an account. Then enter the TeamViewer ID in the Partner ID field and press enter. It will ask you the password defined previously and connect to the Raspberry Pi in remote desktop.
