To examine the nefarious workings of some of these predatory journals, Sorokowski et al 6 conducted a sting operation in which a fictitious scientist with no published articles in academic journals, no citations in any database, fake credentials and university appointments, and no experience as a reviewer applied to 360 journals as an editor.
