I prefer Samba for anything that will be strictly internal, if you want to access files externally as well then Nextcloud is a good addition to Samba, or just Nextcloud by itself. OK, so this worked and I even understand a little bit about why it worked. Evidently, Samba 4.11 changed the default minimum Samba protocol from Samba 1 to Samba 2. Answer: “Better” no. Those “cloud” based ideas tend to be synchronization instead. There are means of making it a more direct share like Samba does - i.e. the storage is on the “server” not just a copy on your local as synchronization implies.
