They were awesome and after combing through logs and wireshark files, they finally were able to change the setting "Do not reserve disk space when creating files" to checked instead of unchecked and it INSTANTLY increased my speed from 3MB/s to over 60 MB/s (90MB/s+ at some points).

On your Synology NAS, go to Control Panel > File Services > SMB > Advanced Settings, scroll down and turn on "Do not reserve disk space when creating files". This is off by default, and can cause huge slowdowns when backing up to a Synology NAS with Veeam and possibly other backup software too.

If files get removed, but the free disk space is not growing it usually means that a process still has a so-called file handle open and therefore the machine doesn't really "remove" the file, but this shouldn't be the case over a network share...
