It lies about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the modern city of Taos, New Mexico. The pueblos are considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States. This has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The pueblo is located 2.6 miles (4.2 km.) north of the Taos Plaza and is open to visitors most of the year, but closes every spring for eight weeks for ceremonial purposes, so please call ahead.
